Moving Blog Sites

So, because I only have a couple of readers on here, I've decided to stop blogging here and switch over to the Card Runners blog network. That way, I get more views which may or may not be a good thing, but w/e.

Here we go...

UGGHHHHHHH!!!

I'm going to try and make this quick, as it's almost midnight, and I have to be up at 6:30 tomorrow morning and am trying to get some rest.

After an amazing first couple weeks to the month, I have hit the wall with back to back 3+ BI losing sessions.

As you can see, I have slid back a decent amount after being up over $600 for the month. A few days ago, I decided to mix it up and join some 200NL tables, and things went...well. Through the 574 hands that I've played at that limit, I am up $890, while only up $112 now at 100NL this month through 13k hands :-(

Today I really shouldn't have played. I always tell myself how much I hate playing when given a short period of time. I got back from the gym today around 7:30 and had to be over at Rachel's by 9 for 24. So I joined 11 tables and proceeded to butcher this one right out of the gate:

No reads on this guy, but I figured it was a good time to 3b iso his min raise. I have no idea what to make of a random's min-opening raise from LP but apparently it includes 88. Didn't really want to flat his min raise on the flop because there are so many bad turn cards. Guess I should have found a fold. But w/e...TP2K in a 3b pot...meh.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?5211791 lol 3rd place

http://www.pokerhand.org/?5211793 Again pretty laughable. At least he didn't have more chips

http://www.pokerhand.org/?5211795 This was from yesterday's sesh. Pretty much a cooler. I was fortunate that he didn't just jam p/f because I get a good flop, and he spazzes out. NFI what he is doing.

Overall, up about 1k on the month + $300 in rback. It's been a great year so far, and I will give more details about my future and what I plan on doing poker-wise for the short term.

Here's a graph of my year thus far. This is most of my hands, though they are only ones I have played on my desktop. There are a few from my laptop.

Gotta go to bed!

12 Tabling + Joel is Working Again???

It's been a fun little month. It's nice to look back at my last post and realize that, after the pretty sick downswing, I have pulled myself out and, poker-wise, things have been going very nicely. I didn't set any hands goals for this month but kinda wish I could have, as I played slightly over 22k hands, winning slightly over $1300 plus what is going to be around $350 in rakeback.

After going through the downswing, I decided to mix it up and 6 table 50NL 6-max for a little while. Things went pretty well for a couple weeks, and then I decided to get to work on my 22" monitor. Typically I would fire up 9 tables for an hour or so, but I was getting bored, so I added 3 more which fit perfectly on my computer. It has allowed me to put in more volume while increasing my hourly rate which is a good combination.

One of the reasons for my success this month has been due to an improvement in focus. I have played only when I have truly felt like playing, but it's obv a lot easier to put in hands when you're winning. In addition to this, I have decided to just check my ego at the door when I fire up tables. I have let the 30/25 agro's pound on me while I wait to find a good spot to play back or until I actually have a hand.

This is a result of this. This guy for whatever reason decided to just 3bet me relentlessly. I know he is a thinking player, so I know he's going to expect me to 4bet him soon, and, because we were effectively 200bb's deep, this was a perfect spot. I decide to c-bet the same amount i 3bet to try and get him to spew, which he does. I was very happy with this result obviously.

Aside from poker, I have been working out 5+ days of the week. I've been slacking on doing a ton of cardio, but I have been lifting primarily and can feel myself getting stronger which is cool. Rachel had been trying to get me to do hot yoga for a long time, and I had continued to say that I would never do it. Well, I decided to just put an end to it and flip a coin. Heads I would do the 5 day trial; tails I would never do yoga, and she could never bug me about it again. Well, it ended up heads, and I went to hot yoga for the first time yesterday. It was quite an experience.

I have never sweated so much in my life. It was harder than I thought it would be. It is basically doing pretty tough yoga positions for 90 minutes in a 107 degree room. Not something I would include on my list of interests.

Anyways, that was yesterday. Today, we both got lazy and decided against doing it, but I will be back on the train tomorrow :/

Also, I started working at Loomis Trail Bar and Grill. Yes, Joel is working in a grill - cooking, taking orders, serving drinks - EVERYTHING. Running the show. It's kind of a joke as I am the most clumsy person I know and have already ruined 3 pairs of pants from grease spills. But I was sick of not working, and the opportunity was presented to me, so I obliged. So far, so good.

Anyways, I am heading down to Seattle tonight for Katie's bday which should be fun. Gotta go get in a quick workout.

God Bless,

JG

Slaughtered

Went over to Derek's today for the start of the 10am football games and fired up some tables. I got in a couple of deep stack tourneys on UB just planning on playing those and sweating fantasy. Well, Derek came over and wanted to do props online, which meant that we would have to get in at 6 tables.

So I jumped in a couple 100NL tables, a 2/4 limit game, a 5/10 limit game and a 200NL table. Things got ugly real quickly, and in the end, it was my biggest losing day in recent memory, maybe of my life.

In addition to this, I busted all the tournies and got killed in props with Nate and Derek. All in all, I was down nearly $600 in cash games + $70 in tourney fees + about $60 in props.

Hurts to have a day like this, but I was somewhat happy that I just decided to quit. I'm happy that I'm not going to let this ruin my day or anything. It's part of the business, and I just have to accept it. With rakeback and live games, I am up around $1000 on the month which is a nice way to end the year.

My plan is to put in maybe one or two more sessions before the end of the year then withdrawing some money, leaving around $1800 in my acct to grind 100NL.

I had an awesome Christmas. I got the new HTC Droid phone: http://www.htc.com/us/products/droid-eris-verizon

Also got Rock Band and Assassin's Creed II which should be keeping me busy for a while!

Hope all my followers (Petar) have an awesome New Year. I will probably have a blog post soon about my 2010 goals.

God Bless,

JG

Nice Sesh

Just played a good 800+ hand session, winning a little over $500. The games were so good that I only really recognized one reg, and he's not even a consistent reg. Oh, it also helps that I got the best of him in a couple of pots.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?4927741 - I decide to flat here with the AKdd just simply because I think it nicely disguises my hand, I'm not fond of playing AK in a 3-bet pot oop and I don't want to fold out the hands I dominate, like AQ, AJ, KQ, etc. Anyways, I decide to c/call, lead which I think is a cool line to take on this board. It helps me get a couple more streets of value vs. hands that would check back the turn like AQ which is what he had. Not sure what he's doing on the river, but I'll take it.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?4927754
- Not much to say here cept that I get the best of that guy HIIIIIIIIIGH again which is cool. This was actually 20 mins before the above hand, and after that hand, he went off in the chat box.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?4927758 - I flat QQ behind, which is something I'm becoming a bigger and bigger fan of. Suck and re-suck, and I get the $$$

http://www.pokerhand.org/?4927760
- Sick, sick bvb hand. Keep the coolers coming!

http://www.pokerhand.org/?4927763
- Pretty cool hand. This guy was playing 39/17 with a pretty high steal percentage. I def like this 3b against a normal 3x or 3.5x raise. Seems to me, though, that min-raisers don't like to fold to 3b's. So I made it a little more than pot, and he called. I decided to just c/call flop then check/reevaluate turn. I honestly think these types of fisher players' ranges are so polarized when they do 3 barrel that I felt compelled to pay off the river, esp considering everything missed.

There were really no significant lost pots. Good session overall, and I hope that the games are always this good.

I'm going to the Apple Cup tomorrow in which should be a pretty ugly game. Should be fun though.

Until then,

JG

First in the Silly 1.5k gtd

Just took down the 11pm $10 1.5k gtd tourney on UB for like $750 or something silly. The whole situation was so so so ridiculous that I am sitting here laughing to myself. The past three days, I have been at home being extremely unproductive and playing a ton of poker. I had been down a decent amount playing in a 2-20 spread game at the Silver Dollar. I went deep in a FTP tourney last night only to essentially bubble the FT which obv sucks.

Then today we had happy day with the crew which started out at a new Hooters Casino in Renton. I insta dropped $100 in the pit and the four of us successfully busted with no cash in the one table TURRnament. So I'm pissed off, but w/e we decide to go back to the SD to play some more 2-20 spread. I successfully lose another $100. We had been drinking since about 11, and I am worried that if I continue to drink beer, I will become very sleepy soon, and I'm not that drunk, and it's 4pm. So I decide to start drinking some hard stuff (probly not a good decision). Anyways, we take some shots and then go to Roxy's to play in their 6:30 TURRnament. I go busto in that, and then decide to take whatever I have left to the pit and drop about another $100 or so there. So I'm in super depressed/drunk mode.

We leave there and head home, and I decide that I have the decision to go to bed or play in the 11pm TURRnament. I click register and proceed to cruise through the field en route to the first place finish. That cash is actually pretty big for me just in terms of overall confidence. Losing sucks, and I'm happy that I was able to bounce back from the rough last couple of days. I know that it's not a ton of money obv, but it's fun to know that, after all of the events in the last 72 hours, I'm actually showing a slight profit!

Anyways, it's almost 5am, and I need to go to sleep. REAL Thanksgiving soon!

God Bless,

JG
