Well I am back to reality. I remembered when we started the countdown to my 21st, it was around 900 days. Now that time has passed, and I am legally able to drink and gamble at any establishment in the state of Washington. Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Last Thursday, the day before Vegas, I played in a golf tournament with Paul and two of our good friends, Henry and Bubs who both also came to Vegas with us. It was a scramble tourney for our high school that I have played in for the past 8ish years. We struggled on the front, turning in -5. We were about 40 yards out on 9, which is a par 5 and couldn't get up and down with 4 people. It was pretty sad.
The back 9, Bubs' putter started heating up, and he drained a 25-foot snake on 11 for birdie and a 35 footer for birdie on 12. We then eagled 14 and were back in the hunt until 17, a 150 yard uphill par-3. We all put our shots in the sand and again failed to get up and down to card an embarassing bogey. A meaningless eagle on 18 meant we were -11, good for nothing. Oh well, the whole day was just talking about Vegas and how excited we all were.
The next day, we woke up at 5:30, drove to the airport, and immediately headed to a bar to play some Chinese with the 8 of us. 40 oz. of beer and a jaeger bomb later, and we were good to go for our flight. The flight was ridiculously fun also. Derek bought our entire row bud lights and then proceeded to steal more BL's when the flight attendants were not in the back area. HEHE.
Sadly our buzz was almost gone when we got off the flight, but that didn't stop us. We checked in, and me, Derek, Grant, Nate, and Paul headed to Caesar's for an oh-so-fun session of 1-3NL. I ended up making around $50 before heading to dinner at Outback. This was even more ridiculous. Apparently we weren't the other ones binge drinking before dinner, as most everyone showed up pretty intoxicated, including my brother Pete who was nearly passed out the entire time. With the 12-13 of us and a couple trips to the bar to take shots, we wounded up with a $440 bill. Good thing we weren't doing credit card roulette.
After dinner, we headed over to the Mirage where we stayed for the rest of the night. I apparently played in a $70 sng which I vaguely remember running amazingly well in and chopping for first for $300. When the night was over, I was up $300 somehow which I was happy about.
The next day, we woke up at around 10, and I was called down to Harrah's to play Triple Shot with the Vander Pol's and my brothers. This was a blast. Every time one of us would sweep, that person would yell, "that's good for another Seahawks...FIRST DOWN!" It was quite awesome, and we were drinking the entire time.
After that, we went over to the Mirage where I think 8 out of 10 of us sat down at a 3-6 table. I won a little bit then moved to a 1-2NL game where I was up a modest amount. That is where things went somewhat downhill.
I went and played Roulette and lost $90. I then went to Caesar's and bluffed off $150 playing 1-3. I then decided it would be a good idea to sign up for a $160 tournament that they had going on. I busted in the 3rd level when I raised 10-8hh up front. BB Indian dude flatted, and we were heads up to a Ah Jx 7x flop. He led 400, and, if I were sober, I would have re-contemplated my actions. I started the hand with around 4600. If we were deeper, I would have been able to play this more creatively, as this guy looked extremely weak. I decided to raise to 1400, leaving myself 2800, and he snap-called. Turn Jh, and he led 1400. I had 2800 behind and really wanted to get my money in with almost 0 FE (DAMN DRUNKENNESS!!). He made a speech then called with A4o and I bricked.
After that, I realized I was stuck, and my drunk instincts told me I had to make a return to the Triple Shot table. I ended up losing over $200 there then went and played Roulette, where I'm not sure how I did. After that I went to play Texas Shootout and lost around $100.
After this, I wasn't sure how much I was down but decided to head back to the room, which was the best decision of the night. Somehow, I was down to a little over $300. I was trying to do some drunk math to figure out how I had lost so much, but it just wasn't happening. Vegas is a cruel beast, and I would imagine that this happens to a lot of people. After sulking in my room and thinking about calling it a night, I decided that I couldn't let some bad luck ruin this highly anticipated Vegas trip. So I decided to meet up with the guys.
We went to O'Shea's to try and play some beer pong, but it was packed, and we couldn't get into a game. Then we met up with Pete, Bubs, and John. Pete was absolutely hilarious. He had a referee flag that he would throw at people walking on the strip. He would then approach them, get up close and call either "encroachment" or "holding". I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. Us 4 ended up at Margaritaville where we took taquila shots and danced with multiple late-30's, not-so-good-looking females. It is tough to not look that good even after taking taquila shots. But we didn't care. It was a blast.
When we got back to our room, I wanted to sleep in Bubs and Pete's room. Bubs then ordered me a cot, and I spent the night in there. It was so much fun. I can't even describe it.
And then came Sunday.
Sunday was probably the worst possible ending for a great weekend. I'm not going to get into much, but the Hawks got absolutely destroyed at Buffalo, and we lost our #1 WR Nate Burleson for the season. It was not pretty.
All in all it was an unforgettable weekend. I'm not sure if any future vegas trip will live up to this one with every member of the crew either getting married or close. Oh well.
In other news, I am back in Bellingham for the time being mostly because all of my friends are working back at home, and I was bored. I have to wait for the comcast guy to come on Saturday and put in cable/internet, which we haven't had for the 3 weeks that we've been here.
The last two nights, I have put in a couple mini-sessions of .5/1 on UB with meh results. In 1,040 hands, I am up an awesome $185!!! Almost 2 full BI's!!!
I didn't play too many interesting hands, but I would like to go over a couple:
http://www.pokerhand.org/?3175503This guy was playing 40/9, so it was an easy iso with A10. When he potted the flop, I wasn't really sure what to do. I didn't really have any reads on the player but felt that the easiest way to stack off would be for me to flat. He obv peels gin and bets 2/3 pot. I again opt to flat with the intentions of going with the hand. I didn't like the river, but decided to lead $25 into a 66ish pot. He almost snap-min-raised me, and I wanted to puke. I was really convinced that he couldn't show up with a 6, but I felt that I had to press call given his stack, his stats, and the fact that maybe sometime he shows up with a random ace? Maybe not, but I'm not sure. Not sure if I played it correctly but just kinda sucked.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?3175514Got some revenge with the ol' A10. This kind of stuff is just fun.
Everything else was pretty standard. I have been stealing internet from our neighbors, so it hasn't been that fast which has sucked. I only have around $1200 in UB so I am playing under-rolled. But if I can practice disciplined game selection, I feel that my risk is quite minimal. I am hoping to go on a nice little run soon.
I got nothing else.
God Bless,
JG
